If you’ve got a teen and a tween at home, like me, you’re probably attempting to do everything in your power to keep them safe from a pop culture that is intent on robbing them of the innocence of their youth, imploring them to contemplate thoughts that should never even enter the realm of their childhoods. More than anything I just want my daughter and son to have the opportunity to remain kids for as long as possible. In fact, I’d be thrilled if she’d take an interest in the pursuits that hearken back to the old-fashioned values of my tweenhood collecting stationary and creating perfume from flowers picked from the garden! Luckily my son is still interested in typical childhood pursuits like playing touch football, animating his puppets , drawing and of course SpongeBob!
So, what is my grand-master plan? I am hell-bent on finding our common ground beginning with uncovering television shows and movies that my kids and I can share. Ones that focus on kids being kids and pursuing their dreams.
So when it comes to a family night in, I could NOT BE MORE EXCITED about the launch of Fuller House on Feb. 26, as we are that family that likes to curl up and watch some family friendly fare and if it just happens to be something that will appeal to me, my 14-year-old and my 10-year-old WELL IT IS AKIN TO HITTING THE JACKPOT!( for the record we are TOTES like all about the blanket-bundled, popcorn-popped, fireplace-on life like Kimmy Gibbler? and SO psyched to see Stephanie, Kimmy and DJ back on the small screen later this month.
And while we are waiting oh so patiently for Fuller House we will be EATING POPCORN, sitting on the couch and flipping coins for who gets to choose the order of the Netflix movies we watch ! Keep reading for a few of our Family Night in favorite Netflix programs and a very cool craft and yummy smoothy that will help you stay busy during this Frigid Northeast February!
After the kids watch their streaming Netflix movie or TV show, give em something more to do with this self-contained, easy to make DIY Lego box.
Materials you’ll need:
Wooden craft box (found at Hobby Lobby)
Lego base plate (lego.com or Toys R Us)
Favorite Lego kits
Ditch the chips and instead enjoy a delicious and healthy on-the-go treat: a Chocolate Candy Cane Smoothie.
Even better? Though it might taste almost dessert-like, it’s actually a protein-packed snack that will keep the kids full and energized…without the sugar rush. Click here to learn how to make your own.
Note: This post is part of my participation in the Netflix #StreamTeam program.
