CONGRATS to our winner Sassy!
I am not one of those parents who feels my kid would be better off not having access to the Internet; in fact, my 6-year-old has been playing on the computer since he mastered the fine art of keeping his head up and could safely balance himself on my lap. I’ve always considered it a better alternative to the passive act of simply sitting on a couch and watching television.
With the proper parental controls in place, having the Internet at your child’s fingertips is a major help, especially when he’s researching information for school reports. The Internet can take your kids to different places — even if it’s just virtually — in a very intimate way.
But like every other technological breakthrough that holds the promise of greatness, there is always a dark side that we parents need to heed. (Don’t get me started on those unregulated pornography sites that can so easily be accessed by children.)
But, if you know the right sites to visit, you can pop your kidlet on your lap, or pull up two chairs in front of your monitor and explore the universe, brush up on your math skills or play a two-player video game, all from the comfort of your ergonomically configured desk and chairs.
And so, when I was asked to review (AND GIVEAWAY) a Mechatar from the www.iloverobots.com folks; an actual robot– which also has an online gaming component; I figured my son might just nearly pass out with excitement– combining two of his favorite loves- online gaming- and having his own three-dimensional remote controlled robot ( for a six year- it just doesnt get any better than that!)
So what is this Mechatar? With this line ,a company who builds dynamic, interactive robotic toys, combines the best of online gaming and RC robotic toys by connecting the physical world and online world through cloud computing. And Mechatars are currently available nationwide in stores like Target, Radio Shack, Amazon, Toys R’Us and iloveRobots.com MSRP: $39.99)
So how can your kidlet battle in this Mechaverse you ask? He/she can equip their robot with weapons and powers either earned, bought or won from the online store and then proceed to battle other robots. But 3what’s also really cool about these Mechatars – is that the upgrades you do to your robot online- will translate to the 3-dimensional robot as well. And if you’ve gpt TWO 3-dimensional mechatars in your possession- well these two robots can sens one another and engage in a full on battling session!
