Bonding with your daughter is definitely not for the faint of heart, especially as she begins to flex her teen muscles. Most teens, in the process of establishing their independence, are sporting surly attitudes and a desire to be as far away from you as possible.
That’s why it’s imperative that mothers spend quality one-on-one time with their daughters– you need to lay the foundation for a safety net for your daughter. If you want to be in the loop about what’s on your daughter’s radar including, but not limited to, their friendships, feelings and relationships with the opposite sex, you need to be her soft place to fall- so that when she REALLY needs to talk– she knows you are there- no judgment, just present. But that level of comfort- does not just manifest itself- it’s something you need to work on, every single day.
The bottom line is if you truly want a relationship with your daughter- you need to cultivate it the way you would any other in your life. So it is should be one of your goals to seek out activities that will create organic opportunities for you and your daughter to spend time together having fun and hopefully talking– without feeling as though you need to stand on your head and PULL TEETH to get more than a one-word answer from her. Planning a mother daughter day is a great setting for organic conversation and fun.
Bottom line is that I just really want to be involved in her life. Sure, I discipline her, but she also knows she can tell me anything and that ultimately I am on her side.
We have talks every night, which I started when she was a tween, We work out together, we go grocery shopping and at least once a week we go out to eat. She is an integral part of who I am and my happiest times are when I’m with him (and his little brother).
So if you’re looking for concrete ways to start the bonding process keep reading for three TOTALLY Swoonworthy NYC activities where you can get your mother-daughter bonding on!

#2 Crunch Fitness! Like many adults, teenagers often will tell you how much they dislike exercising. It is important to make your teen realize that, exercise, does not have to be another chore and can actually be fun and Thanks to Brianne of Stroller in the City my teen and I were invited to try an abs and ass class and a body shred one as well and I proved to her that exercise with her mama could be cool! BodyShred is a class created by Jillian Michaels, which is high intensity and endurance based 30 minute workout, utilizing Jillian’s 3-2-1 interval approach of strength, cardio, and abs. And 20 minutes of their Ass n Abs session really drove it home for us!
Suffice it to say we bonded over sweating and pushing ourselves to our limits and in fact my teen kept encouraging me to power through it!
And when all was said and done we got to drink wesome Just salad fruity drinks and go home with these amazing goody bags filled with Living Proof Dry Shampoo, Bliss Spa, Ounce Water, KIND bars, Purity Organic Juice, Boom Boom Brow Bar, Enlightened Snacks in a cute tote!
